Heceta Head Lighthouse

Heceta Head Lighthouse

Perhaps this is not nature, but the surrounding area is.

Built in 1893, this 56ft/17 m tower sits 205 ft/65 m above sea level. Its light, which is now an automated beacon, is the most powerful on the Oregon Coast and can be seen 21 miles from land. It is reportedly the most photographed lighthouse in the United States.

You can see the lightkeeper house to the right of the lighthouse. It now serves as a (reportedly haunted) bed and breakfast. If you want to enjoy nature during the day, and who know what a night, spend a weekend there…

The lighthouse is just north of the Sea Lion Caves, about 12 mi/19km north of Florence. Views like this are available from Hwy-101. This view happens to be from the nearby Sea Lion Caves.
