The 620 foot / 189 meter falls are visible from Interstate Hwy-84. A parking area for the falls actually lies between the east and west bound lanes of the freeway.
The falls are actually two falls, 542 ft/165m upper fall and a 69 ft/21m lower fall. There is a minor 9ft/3m drop between them, allowing for the single 620ft/189m measurement.
Fed by springs and snowmelt from Larch Mountain, this is present year round. A trail can take you to the top of the falls, crossing the creek on the bridge on your way… Two million visitors come every year, but it is generally not too crowded. Mornings are best. The parking lot can fill up on summer weekends. If you do go, make sure to stop at the historic lodge at the base of the falls.
You can see this, and so much more, from the Historic Columbia River Highway. If you take this route, drive the west side of it, and make sure to visit the twin tunnels near Mosier on the east side. You can see more of the road by bike or foot, than by car, FYI.
